BUFFALO, NY – The 2013-2014 Colleges of Distinction guidebook named Canisius a “Catholic College of Distinction,” for the second consecutive year. The annual publication recognizes higher education institutions that excel at four distinctions: an engaged student body, great teaching, a vibrant campus community and successful outcomes.
Specifically, the Colleges of Distinction guidebook recognized Canisius for its strong focus on teaching undergraduates, for offering a wide variety of innovative learning experiences, and for providing opportunities to students for personal development. Colleges of Distinction also stated that Canisius is nationally recognized by education professionals as an excellent school, and is highly-valued by graduate schools and employers for its outstanding preparation of students.
Colleges of Distinction assists high school students and parents identify colleges that suit individual personalities and career objectives. Because the majority of college-bound teenagers do not attend the elite, name-brand institutions found on commercial rankings lists, the Colleges of Distinction guidebook highlights four-year institutions that are considered "hidden gems." Colleges and universities are nominated as colleges of distinction by high school college counselors. Publishers then utilize qualitative and quantitative information about those schools, and conduct interviews and college visits to make their final determinations.
One of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation, Canisius is the premier private university in Western New York.
