Scholarship Overview
Canisius University is proud to invite incoming freshmen who declare a major in creative writing, and who demonstrate outstanding talent and ability as a writer, to apply for the Hassett Family Creative Writing Scholarship. The scholarship is competitive, and the awardee will receive a full-tuition scholarship.
The Hassett Family Creative Writing Scholarship is renewable for four years of undergraduate study at Canisius University provided that the recipient remains a declared creative writing major and maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0. If the recipient is eligible for federal and/or state aid, the scholarship is applied after all other aid is awarded, including merit awards.
Conditions
- Remain a declared creative writing major
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and New York State Tuition Assistance Program application (if eligible) annually
Application Process
To qualify for the Hassett Scholarship, applicants are required to:
- Apply to Canisius and select Creative Writing as their intended major
- Include a writing sample of up to 10 pages of creative work
- Include one letter of recommendation addressing their potential as a creative writer.
- Apply by the application deadline of 1/20/25
