Little Theatre

The Canisius University Little Theatre club mounts several fully-staged productions a year by major playwrights and student written and produced plays as well. Club members participate in every aspect of theater production, including acting, directing, costume set design, and show promotion. Artist in residence Eileen Dugan, an award winning Buffalo actor and director, advises the club and directs Little Theatre productions.

The Quadrangle

The Quadrangle is the college's literary and visual arts magazine. It publishes annually in the spring semester featuring works of poetry, fiction and nonfiction prose, photography, artwork, essays, interviews, song lyrics, and short plays. The Quadrangle was founded in the 1951-1952 academic year, and it was the fourth literary magazine at Canisius. The first moderator was Roger B. Dooley, a former graduate and English professor. It was given the name Quadrangle because of its original quarterly publication and representation of the buildings that formed a quadrangle on the main campus. The Quadrangle unveils each year at the end of April. The editors always encourage contributors to come and enjoy the evening. No part of this magazine is unveiled to outside parties until final publication.

Contemporary Writers Series

Established in 1997 by Hamilton "Mick" Cochrane, PhD, the Canisius University Contemporary Writers Series brings fiction writers and poets of national stature to the Canisius campus to read from their works, and to meet with students, faculty, and members of our community. Visiting writers have included Garrison Keillor, Junot Diaz, Lorrie Moore, Edwidge Danticat, Mary Gordon, Tim O’Brien, Ha Jin, and Gloria Naylor. The series maintains a special focus on writers with strong ties to our area: Buffalo natives Connie Porter and Lucille Clifton, as well as upstate writers such as Pulitzer Prize-winning Richard Russo and William Kennedy have also appeared. See a list of this year's guests in the Contemporary Writers Series.
