Classes routinely feature hands-on learning activities such as simulated police lineups and mock cross-examinations to highlight the reality of criminal justice work.
Guest speakers have included representatives from police departments in Ocean City, New Jersey, and Chesterfield County, Virginia; and border patrol agents from US Custom and Border Protection. Students have also heard directly from a sheriff with experience handling bomb-sniffing dogs and cadaver dogs.
Gamma Theta
Students have the opportunity to join Gamma Theta, the Canisius University chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, a national criminal justice honor society. Founded in 1942, the society promotes scholarship in all criminal justice fields. Recent activities hosted by Gamma Theta include a tour of the Attica Correctional Facility and a panel presentation with five guest speakers who discussed their careers in criminal justice.
