Internships provide diverse opportunities to gain real-world experience as an industry professional for students interested in animal behavior, training & welfare, conservation, husbandry, humane education and anthrozoology.
The program regularly sponsors internships at zoos and aquariums, animal shelters and rescues, wildlife rehabilitation centers, wildlife refuges, and dog training and daycare facilities. Recent locations include:

- Myaka Lemur Center
- Buffalo Zoo

- Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge
- Zoo Miami
- New England Aquarium
- Humane Animal Rescue, Pittsburgh
- Field Work in: Madagascar, South Africa, and Bali
Students can complete up to two internships for course credit by enrolling in ABEC 491 and ABEC 492. Students interested in this option should contact the internship coordinator, Dr. Maura Tyrrell. Applications for internships can be obtained in the ABEC Office (Health Sciences Building, room 201).
