Merit Scholarships
Students who are accepted for transfer admission to Canisius are automatically evaluated for an academic merit scholarship. These scholarships are awarded based on a student's cumulative transfer GPA and may vary based on other institutional scholarships received. No application is required.
Specialized Scholarships
In addition to the general scholarships offered to prospective transfer students, Canisius University has continued its commitment to affordable education with scholarship awards for students with special interests:
Alumni Grant
$1,000 per year up to four years of full-time undergraduate study.
Applicant must be the child of an alumnus and accepted for admission. No separate application is required.
Army ROTC
Canisius participates in the Army ROTC program which offers scholarships to college-bound students interested in military service.
The Army ROTC Scholarship can be used for either full tuition & fees, or as housing & food scholarship, it also provides a book stipend, and a subsistence (living allowance) while enrolled in college. There are several types of scholarships available.
High school students can begin the application process following their junior year in high school and have until January 10th of their senior year to initiate an application. If you have questions about the application process, contact 716-888-3239.
Jack Kent Cooke Foundation: Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
This scholarship for top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor's degrees is the largest private scholarship for community college transfer students in the country. The Foundation provides up to $40,000 per year to each of approximately 85 deserving students selected annually.
Music Scholarship
The Fine Arts Department at Canisius University offers scholarships for students entering Canisius in the Fall 2025 semester.
$1,500 scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The scholarships are in addition to merit awards and are renewable for four years.
Criteria
- Admission to Canisius University as a full-time student for Fall 2025
- High school music performance experience (solo or ensemble)
- Scholarship application and reference letters
- Recorded solo audition (vocal or instrumental)

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship / Alpha Beta Gamma Scholarship
Qualifications
Transfer students with a 3.0 Q.P.A. and proof of induction. Students may receive only one of either the Alpha Beta Gamma or the Phi Theta Kappa scholarships. Either of these awards can be received in addition to the Canisius Transfer Scholarships.
Awards
$2,000 per year based upon merit. Awards are renewable for a total of six undergraduate semesters, provided the student maintains good academic standing and full-time status.
How to apply
Students are automatically considered for this scholarship upon acceptance for admission. No separate application is required. All students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA to be considered for need-based aid.
Studio Art Scholarship
The Fine Arts Department at Canisius University offers scholarships for students entering Canisius in the Fall 2025 semester and planning to minor in Studio Art.
$1,500 scholarships are available to incoming freshmen and transfer students. Scholarships are in addition to merit awards and are renewable for 4 years.
Criteria
- Admission to Canisius University as a full-time student for Fall 2025.
- Completed application.
- Link to an online portfolio (with password, if password protected) OR Flash drive of 15 labeled (your name, size, media, date created) works in any medium created within the last two years.

Transfer Visit & Apply Grant
Students applying as transfer applicants for Spring 2025 are eligible to qualify for a $2,000 per year grant.* Complete both of the steps below to be eligible.
Step 1: Visit Campus
Complete one of the following qualifying visits:
- Official admissions visit to campus – a campus tour, counselor interview and tour, or on-campus admissions event.
- Official admissions virtual interview with an Admissions Counselor.
Step 2: Apply
- Submit your application with the Canisius Application or through Common App.
