BUFFALO, NY - The Canisius University Joseph J. Naples ’41 Conversations in Christ & Culture Lecture and Performance Series presents Rev. T. Frank Kennedy, S.J., on Monday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regis Room South of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. Kennedy’s talk, entitled “Jesuits and Music: The Case of the Latin American Jesuit Missions,” is free and open to the public.
Kennedy is the Canisius Professor at Boston College where he is rector of the Jesuit Institute, a research institute. As a musicologist with a PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Kennedy has edited, produced and professionally recorded four baroque operas associated with the early Society of Jesus. He has lectured and published widely about Jesuits and music, with particular attention to the music of Latin American Jesuit missions during the Colonial Period. Kennedy also holds a master of fine arts degree in harpsichord and baroque performance practice from Tulane University.
Along with John O’Malley, he hosted two international conferences on Jesuits and culture. As a result, Kennedy authored two books: The Jesuits: Cultures, Sciences and the Arts, 1540-1773. (Vol. I-1999 & II-2006, University of Toronto).
The Joseph J. Naples Conversations in Christ and Culture Lecture and Performance Series fosters conversations about important issues involving the relationship between Christianity and culture. It promotes cooperation and understanding across religious, gender and ethnic lines.
