BUFFALO, NY - Canisius student-athletes continue to win big in the classroom. Their cumulative grade point average (GPA) for the 2014-2015 academic year was 3.22. Seventy-five percent (75%) of Canisius student-athletes maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
In addition, five varsity athletic teams posted perfect single-year scores in the recently released NCAA academic progress rate (APR) statistics. Men’s cross country/track, women’s cross country/track, golf, rowing and volleyball were honored for being among the top 10 percent in APR.
The APR results, which are based on four years of academic scores, also found each of Canisius’ 20 varsity athletic programs to be in good standing. Seventeen of the 20 teams scored 980 or better (out of a possible 1,000 points) on the APR.
Aside from the NCAA rankings, the MAAC named 180 Canisius student-athletes to its Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. Twenty-two (22) of the college’s 24 hockey players earned Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team honors, as well.
