BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University will host the 9th Annual WNY Brain Bee on Saturday, February 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the college’s Science Hall on Main Street at Jefferson Avenue. During the competition, local high school students (grades 9-12) will be tested on their knowledge of human brain topics such as anatomy, sensations, movement, stress, aging, addiction, memory and neurological diseases. The event is free and open to the public.
From 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. there will be a medical and science career panel during which parents and participants can ask panelists about the experiences they have had as they pursue their careers in medicine or science. Panelists include graduate students from the Neuroscience PhD Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB), medical students from UB, and undergraduate students from Canisius University. The Brain Bee competition begins at 11:30 a.m.
The winner will receive a travel stipend to attend the National Brain Bee in Baltimore, MD. First, second and third place winners will receive cash prizes totaling $350. Students interested in registering for the event should contact Elizabeth Hogan, PhD, associate professor of biology, at @email.
