Buffalo, NY – Canisius University named Wilbert R. Green II, of Buffalo, director of school and community partnerships within the School of Education and Human Services. Green began work at Canisius on Monday, February 3. His responsibilities include cultivating and sustaining school and community partnerships, and overseeing student teaching and field placements with the college’s teacher education programs. In these roles, Green will work closely with the college’s coordinator of student teaching, teacher education faculty, and associate deans. He will also contribute significantly to the college’s Center for Urban Education (CUE) and New Buffalo Institute (NBI), both of which facilitate collaborations within the college and the local community in an effort to work in solidarity with partners on challenges and opportunities.
Green comes to Canisius from Say Yes to Education Buffalo, where he served as the Community Schools East Zone leader. In this position, Green’s primary responsibility was to work collaboratively with colleges and universities, school and district-level administrators, and public and private sector organizations to implement a large-scale program that addressed the needs of the surrounding community. As these partnerships solidified, Green worked closely with the Buffalo Public School (BPS) supervisor of Extended Learning Time and Student Teaching to develop opportunities for prospective teachers to earn observation and practicum hours, while also utilizing the skill and professional acumen of college staff to bolster academic programming in all BPS Community Schools. The outcome resulted in a sustainable resource of post-secondary students and professors to provide academic programming and bolstered teacher preparation programs by providing an increase in opportunities for teachers in training to forge relationships with schools in a highly diverse urban academic environment.
Green earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and secondary education from Alfred University, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix. He also holds a certification in executive conflict coaching.
