NYS Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Names Clancy Seymour, EdD, New President

BUFFALO, NY – Clancy M. Seymour, EdD, was elected president of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) during the organization’s 82nd annual conference November 20-23.  Seymour is an assistant professor of kinesiology at Canisius University and director of the Physical and Health Education Teacher Education (P/HETE) program. He currently teaches capstone and student-teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  In addition, Seymour teaches classes in assessment and teaching methods.

Seymour’s scholarly work involves research related to physical education teacher education with a special interest in educational policy and its effects on K-12 physical education.  His research interests also include assessment and coaching. Most recently, Seymour’s findings have been published in Quest, the International Journal of Education Policy and Leadership, and the Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education.

An alumnus of Canisius University, Seymour earned his bachelor’s degree in 1997 and his master’s degree in 1998. He holds a doctoral degree in education from D’Youville College. 

Seymour is the 2014 recipient of the NYS Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Higher Education Amazing Person Award.  He received the same recognition, one year prior, from the Western Zone of the NYS Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.  In 2010, that same organization awarded Seymour its Higher Education Teacher of the Year Award.
