The new Cura Personalis Corner opened on the first floor of the Andrew L. Bouwhuis, SJ, Library. This space, formerly two study rooms, was converted based on student requests for a space dedicated to contemplation. Library Director Kristine Kasbohm said this idea was a “natural pairing with the interfaith prayer room, so we moved it into a larger space on the main floor.”
The idea of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, was one of the themes for this year’s New Student Orientation. A word cloud, generated by first-year students about what cura personalis means to them, hangs in one of the rooms. Decorated with soft lighting and low seating, the rooms include prayer mats, holy books, yoga mats, bolsters, and blankets.
“This space invites the campus community to care for their body, mind, and spirit,” said Kasbohm. “I hope it will be used by the Canisius community to care for themselves in meaningful ways.”
The Cura Personalis Corner is available for use by individuals and small groups for prayer
and faith sharing. A variety of faculty, staff, and administrators offer daily programs at
noon, Monday through Thursday, when classes are in session.
