Canisius Among Best in Nation to Offer Financial Aid

June 6, 2017

BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University is among the top 250 private colleges and universities in the nation to offer freshman students the most in financial aid, according to a new ranking by the Student Loan Report (SLR).  The average financial aid awarded to freshman students at Canisius University is $32,878.

In the Student Loan Report, financial aid is defined as the average financial aid package awarded to needy, degree-seeking, first-time, full-time freshman students.  The data pertains to private colleges and universities, only, and was derived from the 2015 Peterson’s Financial Aid Data Set.

“This latest ranking by the Student Loan Report validates what we at Canisius have always known: that our need-based financial aid packages, which include scholarships, grants and other awards, are competitive not only amongst our peer private institutions but amongst the average cost of public universities, as well,” says Kathleen Davis, vice president for enrollment management.  “Ninety-eight percent of Canisius students receive some form of financial assistance.”

The Student Loan Report provides unbiased coverage on the latest student loan news and information.  SLR also creates resources and guides for borrowers and their families so they make the best decisions when it comes to paying for college and repaying student debt.  This latest report was put together to help college bound freshmen see which private schools offer the most financial aid to the next freshman class.

One of 28 Jesuit colleges in the nation, Canisius is the premier private college in Western New York.
