Buffalo, NY – The Canisius University Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures is hosting its spring 2021 Borders & Migrations Event Series, which kicks off on Wednesday, February 24 and will continue to run throughout the semester. These events are free and open to the public. They will be livestreamed and followed by question and answer sessions.
The series includes the following events:
- Voices of the Border Book Launch and Interview: Wednesday, February 24, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. The Borders & Migrations initiative is honored to welcome Maria Engracia Robles Robles, and Tobin Hansen, PhD., to discuss their new book, Voices of the Border: Testimonios of Migration, Deportation, and Asylum. - Art21 Borderlands Screening and Curator Talk: Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9, 7:00 p.m.The Borders & Migrations series will present a screening of “Borderlands” on March 8 followed by a panel discussion on March 9 with Andrea Alvarez, PhD, curatorial assistant for the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and Claire Schneider, founder of the C.S.1 Curatorial Projects. - Environment, Refugees and Risk: Monday, March 15, 7:00 p.m. Pablo Bose will deliver a talk, entitled “Environment, Refugees and Risk: Mapping Environmental Vulnerabilities, Epidemic Outbreaks and Campus.” The discussion will focus on the coronavirus pandemic and reveal environmental injustices. Bose is an associate professor in the Department of Geography and director of the Global and Regional Studies Program at University of Vermont. - Immigration and Populism: Tuesday, April 20, 6:00 p.m. The speaker for this event Bohdan Szklarski, PhD, from the University of Warsaw, Poland. Visit www.canisius.edu/polandhungary to livestream the event.
