Buffalo, NY - The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has awarded Amherst resident Daniel Mosher a $10,000 scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year. Mosher graduated from Canisius University in May 2021 with an undergraduate degree in accounting. He will use his scholarship to pursue a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from Canisius University.
The PCAOB Scholars Program benefits outstanding students who are likely to become accountants and auditors. PCAOB Scholars are nominated by their educational institution and participating educational institutions select their nominees from students enrolled in their accounting degree programs.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing as evidenced by an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher or be in the top 1/3 of their overall class, demonstrate financial need and high ethical standards.
"Our PCAOB scholars represent the future leaders of the accounting and auditing profession," says PCAOB Chair WIlliam D. Duhnke. "We congratulate them for their academic dedication and achievements, and we wish them the best as they complete their education and begin careers in the profession."
An active undergraduate student at Canisius University, Mosher was the portfolio manager for the Undergraduate Student Association, an executive board member of the Accounting Society and an accounting tutor. He is currently involved in a summer internship with KPMG in the deal advisory and strategy practice and recently concluded a corporate accounting internship with Rich Products Corporation, a multi-national foodservice company.
"My experience working in Rich's Corporate Accounting Department has given me a unique perspective on what it is like inside this business function," wrote Mosher in his scholarship application essay. "The experience helped provide practical insight in understanding the risks that live inside a company's accounting function."
Mosher's professional involvement and outstanding academics earned him induction into Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit institutions of higher education. He is also an inductee of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society that serves business programs accredited by AACSB International.
Since 2011, the PCAOB has administered a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities. The PCAOB Scholars Program is mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and is funded through monetary penalities collected as part of the PCAOB enforcement actions.
The Accounting Department at Canisius University is housed within the Richard J. Wehle School of Business, which U.S. News & World Report recently ranked as the No. 1 private business program in Western New York.
