BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius International Business Association (CIBA) placed fourth at the 2016 Northeastern University − Consortium of Undergraduate International Business Education (NU-CUIBE) case competition from Thursday, November 3 – Saturday, November 5. Sixteen teams from top-ranked universities across the nation competed at this year’s competition, which gives students the opportunity to showcase their international business skills, hone their analytical capabilities, sharpen critical thinking, utilize presentation skills and apply what they have learned in the classroom in a highly competitive setting. Four Canisius students comprise the winning team. They include:
- Gustavo Gonzales ’18, CIBA president, a junior international business/Spanish dual major
- Sarah Owen ’17, a senior international business/political science/German triple major
- Nicole Pierce ’18, CIBA vice president, a junior management/marketing dual major
- Angel Saldivar ’18, a junior international business major.
The international business major at Canisius is unique in the Western New York area because it combines the study of international business topics with those in the realms of modern language studies and international experience. The program includes an international business component composed of four core courses and three electives, a language requirement and participation in an international experience.
The Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education, or CUIBE, sanctions the case competition. CUIBE – of which Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business is a founding member – has 34 members who are dedicated to undergraduate international business education excellence. Faculty and administrators representing CUIBE members meet twice a year to share best practices and discuss new initiatives in international business education. D’Amore-McKim has hosted this competition since 2010. The NU-CUIBE case competition was conceived to bring students from the partner institutions together.
