BUFFALO, NY – Canisius University increased the number of Bloomberg Terminals on campus to 10, thanks to a $125,000 gift from the Uncle Bob’s Self Storage Foundation. Eight terminals are located in the Nelson D. Civello ’67 Financial Markets Lab and two are in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library.
“We are extremely grateful for this generous gift, which will support expanded enrollment and help more of our students prepare for careers as Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs) and Certified Financial Planners (CFPs),” said Daniel Borgia, PhD, dean of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business. “It will also ensure that our finance program continues to be among the elite programs in the Northeast and that we maintain our dominance in the CFA Investment Research Challenge.”
The Bloomberg Terminals include the software platform for the Bloomberg Professional Service, which is a leading information system for global financial markets. Terminals provide real-time and historical data, market moving news and analytics information 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and store information on virtually every private and public company.
Golden Griffin Fund (GGF) students use the Bloomberg system extensively. The GGF is a student-run, investment management program that gives students the opportunity to make real investments using real money. GGF students select potential companies in which to invest, manage and analyze portfolio holdings (stocks), and evaluate and recommend companies to add to the portfolio.
Canisius GGF students have won the Western New York CFA Investment Research Challenge competition for six consecutive years and went on to beat more than 800 schools worldwide to win the global competition 2015.
“Bloomberg is the most comprehensive financial information system in the industry,” adds Steven A. Gattuso, CFA, assistant professor of economics and finance and executive director of the Golden Griffin Fund. “Students who are familiar with the terminal have a definite advantage in starting their careers since they are already familiar with one of the most significant tools that is used widely by financial firms.”
Uncle Bob’s Self Storage is owned and operated by Life Storage, a fully integrated, self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT).
Canisius University is one of 28 Jesuit universities in the nation and the premier private university in Western New York.
