Buffalo, NY - The 2008 financial crisis brought big changes to the way banks and investment houses do business. But its effects weren’t limited to Wall Street. The market meltdown changed how finance students need to prepare for future careers. To address this need, the Richard J. Wehle School of Business is introducing a new master of science degree in finance, in fall 2019.
The graduate program is an extension of the college’s popular undergraduate degree in finance, which is ranked No. 18 in the country by U.S. News & World Report. It will provide advanced knowledge in the areas of corporate finance, investment management, portfolio management, and financial institutions and markets. The 30-credit hour program is distinguished by its offering of three specialized concentrations: investment research, risk management and data analytics – areas in which employment is expected to grow 11.5% through 2024.
In addition to the knowledge base, students will gain a strong foundation in ethics, standards of professional conduct, communication and team work. Extended hands-on learning opportunities outside the classroom further expand the educational value of the MS degree in finance, which can be pursued by students in full- or part-time capacities.
