BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius University Master in Sport Administration Program will host its first Sports Forum on Friday, November 8, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center (Regis North and South). The event is free for Canisius alumni, students and faculty. Additional guests are $5.00.
The one-day conference was developed to educate current and future professionals about the various aspects and opportunities in the sports industry. Intercollegiate athletics, business development and marketing, professional sport, event planning and facility management are a few of the topics that will be discussed throughout the day. A total of 25 guest speakers are scheduled to speak at the Sports Forum. Each is an alumnus/a of Canisius’ master’s program in sport administration.
Steve Clar MS ’05, associate director of academic and membership affairs for the NCAA, will serve as the keynote speaker for the morning session. He will discuss the current landscape in intercollegiate athletics and changes on the horizon.
Lauren Loomis MS ’03, the NFL on-field business unit manager for New Era Cap Company, will deliver the keynote address in the afternoon. Loomis will discuss the agents of change in shaping sports programs and who makes key decisions.
Additional speakers include Adam Czajkowski MS ’08, area scout for the New York Yankees; Tim Kehoe MS ’03, director of marketing programs and merchandise for the Buffalo Bills; Peter Petrella MS ’04, director of business development for the Buffalo Sabres; and Scott Loffler MS ’05, director of operations for the Buffalo Bandits.
The master’s program in sport administration provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management. The program is one of only a few master’s programs in the U.S. approved by the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM), and courses are available online or on campus.
