Buffalo, NY – Canisius University President John J. Hurley has appointed Terri L. Mangione, PhD, vice president for student affairs. Mangione has served as the interim vice president for student affairs since June 2013, when Ellen O. Conley, PhD, retired. Mangione also serves as dean of students. In these roles, she oversees the offices of Residence Life, Student Counseling Services, Student Health Services, Campus Programming and Leadership Development, Athletics and Campus Ministry, among others.
“Terri has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the Student Affairs Division,” said President Hurley in announcing Mangione’s new appointment. “Her expertise, reputation and tenure at the college will no doubt prove to be invaluable in her new role and I am confident she will continue to provide excellent leadership in student affairs.”
Mangione first came to Canisius University in 1986, as a counselor in the Financial Aid Office. She later served as associate director of financial aid, director of academic advisement and associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Mangione left Canisius in 2003 to become senior associate vice provost for undergraduate education at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She returned in 2007, to assume the position of dean of students.
She currently serves on the executive board for the Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators (JASPA) and is past chair of the NCAA certification process.
Mangione holds a BA in applied clinical psychology and an MS in college student development from Alfred University, and a PhD in the social foundations of higher education from the University at Buffalo.
