BUFFALO, NY – ArtsCanisius presents the following performances, which are free and open to the public, unless otherwise specified:
- Monday, September 22 – Meet-the-Faculty Recital at 12:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance, entitled “Steps through Time,” will feature Ansgarius Aylward, violin; and Jane Cary, harpsichord. The recital will highlight dance music for violin and harpsichord from the Baroque to the present day with works from Corelli, Telemann, Rameau and Schnittke. Aylward is assistant concertmaster of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and music director of the Canisius University Chamber Orchestra. Cary is professor emerita of fine arts at Canisius University and previously served as director of music and administrative director of ArtsCanisius.
- Tuesday, September 30 − Informally Formal Chamber Recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance will feature Sal Andolina, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) clarinetist and saxophonist; and guests artists Al Schlisserman, accordion; Mike Moser, guitar; and Paul Zapalowski, bass. These recitals provide an intimate setting in which BPO musicians share their favorite chamber works through stories, art and music.
Tickets are $15 general admission and $7 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at canisius.edu/artscanisius-tickets.
Sunday, October 5 – NINE Live, featuring James Piorkowski, composer, at 7 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. This special concert will present the premiere live performance of the new recording, NINE, an album of all original works by James Piorkowski. Piorkowski will perform on classical guitar and will be joined by Natasha Farny, cello; Angela Haas, soprano; Anne Kissel-Harper, piano; Daniel Ihasz, baritone; and the Fredonia Chamber Choir, under the direction of Gerald Gray.
Piorkowski is a SUNY Distinguished Professor at the State University of New York at Fredonia and a composer whose works have been performed internationally and featured on many recordings.
The ArtsCanisius series at Canisius University presents concerts by professional musicians, including members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Canisius faculty, art shows and lectures by professional artists, as well as student recitals.
