BUFFALO, NY − The Canisius University Video Institute has acquired a 4K Blackmagic Design Production Camera, which will significantly increase the institute’s creative and technical capabilities.
“These cameras, which shoot RAW and Apple ProRes formats onto a removable 480GB hard-drive, represent a whole new level of creative possibilities beyond conventional single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras,” says Jamie O’Neil, associate professor of digital media arts and co-director of the Video Institute. O’Neil’s DMA385: Digital Filmmaking course will be the first to use the camera in conjunction with a 4K Video Institute project, which begins production in winter 2015.
“I am especially impressed with the wide dynamic range of the camera, and the application of the larger 4K files into special effect shots that are being composited in Adobe After Effects,” adds O’Neil. He says that students who have tested the 4K Blackmagic Design Production Camera are pleased with its ease-of-use.
