Buffalo, NY – Canisius University senior Madison "Maddy" Eberhard '24 of Getzville, NY, will compete in the 2023 World Rowing Championships, which take place in Belgrade, Serbia from September 3 - 10.
Eberhard will participate in the Para Rowing 2 (PR2) mixed double sculls with Russell Gernaat. With a top six finish, the pair will qualify for a spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games, to be held In Paris, France. The senior World Rowing Championships take place each year at the end of the international rowing season and World Champions are crowned in 14 Olympic boat classes – seven for men and seven for women, as well as six international boat classes for lightweight rowers.
Eberhard previously competed in the 2019 World Rowing Championships placing 4th in both the PR2 Women's Single Sculls and the PR2 Women's Single Sculls. She also won the PR2 single sculls at the 2021 U.S. Rowing Summer National Championships.
Eberhard is a student in the Canisius Department of Kinesiology and pursuing a bachelor of science degree in sports and exercise health care.
The Department of Kinesiology at Canisius University also administers an undergraduate program in health and wellness, an undergraduate minor in strength and conditioning, and graduate programs in health and human performance, exercise science and applied nutrition.
