If you have previous college credits from a two-year college or another four-year institution, we welcome you to apply to Canisius. Any applicant who has enrolled in courses at another college or university after the completion of high school must apply as a transfer student.

What materials do I need?
- A completed application and personal statement (at least 250 words)
- Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
- High school transcripts*
*Required only if you have fewer than 24 college credits or if you are applying to a program in the School of Education
How will my credits transfer?
1. After you apply and send us transcripts from each college or university you have attended, a full transfer credit evaluation will be completed and mailed to you within a couple of weeks after you are officially accepted.
2. Transfer students looking to see how individual courses will transfer into Canisius may find our online unofficial transfer credit evaluation helpful. If you are a student looking to know how 15 or more credit hours or full semesters of course work will transfer into a Canisius University degree program, please request an unofficial transfer credit evaluation.
Students are always welcome to request an unofficial transfer credit evaluation before deciding to apply to Canisius University. You will simply need to complete and submit the unofficial transfer credit evaluation request below. Completed evaluations will be emailed to students within two weeks of your request.
Request an Unofficial Credit Evaluation
Canisius University accepts transfer credit from accredited colleges/university’s, AP, IB, CLEP, and Military credit. Students may transfer a maximum of 90 credits, with a maximum of 60 credits awarded for courses from 2-year schools.
What are the important deadlines?
The two main deadlines to remember are the Canisius admissions deadline and the FAFSA deadline:
Transfer Application Deadline: Rolling Admission. That means you can apply to transfer any time throughout the year.
Complete the FAFSA: File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible, to determine your eligibility for all forms of aid.
Remember: Transfer students can enroll for both the fall and spring semesters.

Previously Attended Canisius?
Welcome back! Students who have taken a year or more off or who are looking to come back for a second bachelor’s degree should complete the re-admit application for admission. The Office of Undergraduate Admission will review your application and inform you of your next steps to make your transition back as smooth as possible. In addition to the application, we also request that you send us a brief essay explaining your educational and career goals. Indicate what you plan to accomplish by re-enrolling at Canisius. We also request a recent copy of your resume and any official transcripts from colleges or universities you have attended since you left.
