BUFFALO, NY - Canisius University undergraduate students interested in a legal career now have the opportunity to apply to the University at Buffalo School of Law one year early through a new 3+3 Accelerated BA/BS Plus JD program recently launched between the two universities. Available to first-year students beginning in fall 2020, the new program enables students from a variety of majors to complete their undergraduate education and law degree in less time (and at less cost) than the traditional seven years required.
“Canisius University is pleased to partner with the University at Buffalo School of Law – the only law school in the State University of New York system,” says Robert Klump, Esq., director of Frank G. Raichle Pre-Law Center at Canisius University. “This innovative collaboration gives highly motivated pre-law students the opportunity to pursue new levels of academic achievement in the most efficient, effective and affordable way so they may get a head start on their legal careers.”
The pre-law program at Canisius University provides students with foundational knowledge, hands-on experience through law-related internships, and guidance to successfully prepare for and seamless transition to law school.
The 3+3 Accelerated BA/BS Plus JD initiative now offers an accelerated option for students who want to earn their bachelor’s and juris doctorate degrees in six years. The new program is open to students who plan to major in political science, criminal justice, English, history, sociology, philosophy, classics or environmental studies. Candidates must complete all academic requirements toward their majors by the end of their junior year, and maintain a cumulative GPA at Canisius of 3.5 or higher. Additionally, students must take the LSAT or GRE no later than January of their junior year and apply to the UB School of Law no later than February 1 their junior year. The LSAT score must meet UB School of Law’s admission requirements.
The Frank G. Raichle Pre-Law Center at Canisius University serves as a resource for pre-law students. The center is dedicated to advising and guiding students who are working towards law school. In addition to receiving recommendations on coursework and comprehensive advice on the law school admissions process, students are counseled on exercising and improving their analytical and persuasive writing and oral communication skills.
Graduates of the pre-law program at Canisius University are regularly accepted into top law schools across the country and have enjoyed successful careers as lawyers, politicians and federal judges.
