Madie Alessi ’21 is a health & wellness and psychology double major from Penn Yan, NY, who hopes to heal the whole person when she pursues a doctorate in chiropractic medicine, a master’s in nutrition and yoga teacher certification after graduation. She has been a caller in the Canisius Fund Call Center for two years and has enjoyed being able to connect with an array of alumni who have offered her great advice for her future. This, along with the incredible relationships she has built with her professors, shows the closeness of the Canisius family. Because of this, Madie truly feels part of something special.
Marcus Brown ’20 is a biology major from Buffalo, NY, who will be on the path to becoming a doctor when he graduates in May. Marcus has quickly seen just how generous Canisius alumni are in supporting what he loves most. He realized that many of the opportunities he appreciated during his time at Canisius have been the result of the generosity of alumni. He has loved his time as a member of the cross-country team and as an ambassador of the ALANA Student Center. These opportunities have allowed him to feel part of the great Canisius community while also making a difference on campus.
Hannah Girts ’21 wants to be a physician assistant after she graduates from Canisius. The health & wellness major from Lakewood, NY, found that Canisius left an impact on many people who she connected with as a new caller in the call center. She heard about countless opportunities afforded to alumni when they were students, and it caused her to reflect on the many opportunities she enjoys at Canisius. Most notably is joining Phi Sigma Sigma, which has led to countless leadership and networking experiences.
Canisius Fund 150 supports critical and urgent needs of the college and our students, most notably direct tuition assistance. Support of alumni, friends and parents helps to keep the excellence of Canisius University vibrant and strong for the students who deserve it most. For Madie, Marcus and Hannah, these gifts have allowed them to attend Canisius and experience the very best it has to offer.
Canisius Fund 150 is a special sesquicentennial fundraising campaign aimed at celebrating Canisius’ past by investing in the lives and education of current and future students.
