Thomas A. Chambers, PhD, became the new dean of the College of Arts & Sciences in June.
Chambers will manage the implementation of new academic programs, and lead the faculty to further academic excellence in teaching and scholarship. Chambers is also charged with strengthening assessment measures to improve student learning, developing student support systems that improve retention and fostering interdisciplinary learning and service-learning.
A professor of history, Chambers comes to Canisius from Niagara University where he was faculty director of strategic enrollment management for graduate studies and director of the university’s Liberal Arts Program. He served as Niagara’s associate vice president for academic affairs from 2013-15.
Chambers holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Middlebury College, a master of arts in history and a doctorate in American history, both from the College of William & Mary.
