Mark ’10 and Alison ’10 Tortelli fell in love at Canisius. Their love story wouldn’t have been possible as Mark came to Canisius from Cleveland, OH and met Alison, a native Buffalonian. Honoring the place that brought them together, Mark proposed to Alison in front of Christ the King Chapel – where they were later married. The couple recently welcomed Sienna Louise to their family in 2018 and they hope she will continue the family legacy of Golden Griffins.
Former Director of Public Safety Gary Everett and current Director of Public Safety Kimberly Beaty ’86 have a special relationship that would not exist without Canisius. Everett, who served at Canisius for more than 30 years, met Beaty ’86 when she was a student and inspired her to pursue law enforcement. Beaty served the Buffalo Police Department for 32 years, most recently as deputy police commissioner of Operations and Homeland Security. She attributes her success to Everett and upholds the promise to keep the Canisius community safe in the newest chapter of her story.
Alexis Joseph ’21 found her passion on the Dance Griffs team and as a biology major. But Alexis’s Canisius story began because of the scholarships and financial aid she was awarded through the generosity of Canisius alumni and friends who give back and invest in current Griffins. Without that support, Alexis would not have been able to experience all that Canisius has to offer. As she is a first-generation student, earning a college degree – one from Canisius – is all the more special.
