American Cancer Society Announces New Leadership
JoAnna Jacob ’10, MS ’13 heads Upstate New York operation
The American Cancer Society selected a Buffalo executive to lead its Upstate New York operation. JoAnna Jacob ’10, MS ’13 was promoted to executive director, and will be responsible for income development and volunteer leadership. Jacob, who joined the agency in 2011 as manager of special events, was most recently senior manager for community development for Western New York. Read more here.
Machine Acquires Edwards ’17
Alumnus signs with professional lacrosse team
Jeff Edwards ’17 signed a one-year contract with the Ohio Machine, a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) professional men's field lacrosse team based in Obetz, OH. During his time with the Golden Griffins, Edwards received USILA Scholar All-American honors in 2017, CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team honors in 2016, and was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2014. Quinney ’18 holds “Scholarship Fest”
Amber Quinney ’18, founder and CEO of the Amber Quinney Scholarship Academy, hosted a “scholarship fest” for WNY students and parents. The event provided information about where to find and apply for scholarships. Quinney founded the Academy because she believes higher education is imperative and should be an option for everyone, especially teens in underprivileged areas. Read more here.
Robinson ’73 Shares Memories of George H.W. Bush
Alumnus served on late president’s Secret Service detail
George Robinson ’73, former secret service agent and assistant federal security director of Homeland Security, shares his experiences in the Presidential Protection Division serving the late President George H.W. Bush. Robinson’s tour of duty in the Bush White House highlighted the career he built in federal law enforcement after growing up in the Langfield Housing Project on Buffalo's East Side. DiVencenzo ’82 takes over as president and CEO
Charles J. "Chuck" DiVencenzo ’82 will step into the role of president and CEO of the National Association for Fixed Annuities (NAFA) beginning April 1, 2019. DiVencenzo, is former vice president of advanced sales at Allianz Life. His new responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of NAFA, enhancing NAFA’s membership experience and advocating for the value of fixed annuities and their role in American retirement planning.
