BUFFALO, NY - The Canisius University Alumni Association recognized Timothy H. Wadkins, PhD, for teaching excellence and outstanding scholarship, with the conferral of the Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award in May.
The professor of religious studies and theology is known by students for the academic rigor of his coursework. Wadkins is also recognized for founding the Institute for the Global Study of Religion (IGSOR), which promotes the study of religion at Canisius and in the Western New York community. One particular component of IGSOR is the is the Ignatian International Seminar Series which, for the past 17 years, has introduced students to religion in the Philippines, El Salvador, Argentina, India, Mexico and Tanzania.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in religious studies from San Jose State University, a master of divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and a PhD in historical studies from the Graduate Theological Union/University of California at Berkeley. Among Wadkins’ long list of publications is the most recent, The Rise of Pentecostalism in Modern El Salvador: From the Blood of the Martyrs to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
