Students "Steal the Show" at Playwrights Competition

BUFFALO, NY – Two Canisius University students won awards in the 2012 Buffalo Young Playwrights Competition. 

Caitlin McAneney ’12, a senior English and creative writing dual major, won the grand prize for the second time in two years. Her play, Just Enough, will be made into a full production during Buffalo Young Writer Night at the Road Less Traveled Theater in Buffalo. Hillary Hamp ’12, a senior English and creative writing dual major, won an honorable mention. Her play, Kind of Like Pigeons, will receive a staged reading during Buffalo Young Writer Night. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. 

Each year, Road Less Traveled Productions encourages students (ages 17-22) in the Western New York area to “unleash their inner playwright.” The Buffalo Young Writers (BYW) contest solicits 10-minute plays from young playwrights and offers one talented playwright the opportunity to win $250 and a full production of their short play at the Road Less Traveled Theater. The production of the grand prize winning play and the runner-up readings are presented each May at Buffalo Young Writer Night – a celebration of these talented young playwrights.
