Three Accounting Students Awarded Scholarships

BUFFALO, NY – Three Canisius University accounting students are recipients of Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarships, presented by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Foundation. The Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship Program supports the education of collegiate accounting, business, finance and criminal justice students, worldwide. The three Canisius student scholarship recipients are among only 29 total recipients. They are: 

Michael C. Carrig, a 2012, cum laude graduate of Canisius University. Carrig earned his BS in accounting and is currently enrolled in the college’s MS in forensic accounting program. After completing his master's degree, he'll focus on obtaining the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. Carrig plans to pursue a career with the FBI or other government agency. 

Sandra N. Nwosu, a 2012 graduate of Canisius University. Nwosu earned a BS in accounting and accounting information systems (AIS), and is also enrolled in the college’s MS in forensic accounting program. A native of Nigeria, Nwosu plans to pursue her CPA license before the end of her master's program. She interned this summer with PricewaterhouseCoopers. Her long-term goal is to establish an anti-fraud consulting firm in her country.

Charles Trottier, a 2012 graduate of Canisius University. Trottier earned a BS in accounting and is currently enrolled in the college’s MBA program. He is a native of Quebec, Canada and pursuing his CPA license. 

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase the body of anti-fraud knowledge by supporting future anti-fraud professionals worldwide through the funding of scholarships, endowments, research and other educational projects. 

The Department of Accounting is part of the Richard J. Wehle School of Business. It is accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and holds an international reputation for the high quality of its program. Graduates often rank first in New York State for pass rates in the audit section of the CPA exam and fourth in New York State for financial accounting and reporting and regulation sections. 

In fall 2010, the Department of Accounting introduced a new master of science degree program in forensic accounting. Registered with New York State as a licensure-qualifying program, the MS in forensic accounting enhances students’ accounting, auditing and investigative skills, and focuses on analyzing and interpreting business and financial evidence. Graduates of the program are prepared to work in public accounting as auditors and forensic specialists, compliance officers within organizations, and government auditors and financial investigators.
