BUFFALO, NY – The Canisius University Master in Sport Administration Program will welcome John Cimperman, of Cenergy Sports & Entertainment, to campus on Thursday, April 24 as part of its 2014 Distinguished Guest Lecture Series. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a panel discussion in the Regis Room (North) of the Richard E. Winter Student Center ’42. Cimperman will deliver the event’s keynote address at 7:00 p.m. His lecture is entitled “What Keeps You Up at Night.” The event is free and open to the public.
Cimperman is principal of Cenergy Sports & Entertainment, which is a full service marketing agency that specializes in the broadband, sports, packaged goods and entertainment industries. Clients include ESPN, Turner Networks, Toronto Blue Jays, Zippo, the National Hockey League, Comcast, Cleveland Cavaliers, Upstate Farms Milk Cooperative and the MLB Network. As Cenergy’s lead sponsorship strategist, Cimperman maintains relationships with the company’s entire client roster and oversees business development.
Prior to Cenergy, Cimperman served as executive vice president of integrated marketing for Adelphia Communications and the Buffalo Sabres. He also led the sales and marketing efforts for the Los Angeles Kings, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
A panel discussion will precede Cimperman’s lecture. The topic of the panel discussion will be “Increasing Revenues through Building a Consistent Brand.” The panelists who will participate are all graduates of the Master of Sport Administration Program at Canisius. They are: Jason Martin MSA ’05, director of ticket sales for Ohio State athletics; Kristen Janosko MSA ’11, marketing manager for Darien Lake Theme Park; and Brad Hutchins MSA ’04, senior associate athletics director for marketing and revenue generation at the University of New Mexico Lobos.
The Master’s Program in Sport Administration provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management. The program is one of only a few master’s programs in the U.S. approved by the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM), and courses are available online or on campus.
