Discover the history and culture of Cuba with Department of Modern Languages Chair Richard Reitsma, PhD. This seminar in Havana, Cuba is entitled, In the Footsteps of the Jesuits: Fidel, Jesuit Values & The Cuban Revolution and runs from December 29, 2019 - January 11, 2020.
Explore Cuba and the history of its Revolution by learning how Fidel Castro’s Jesuit background impacted his thinking and the social justice movements of the Cuban Revolution.
Through visits in and around Havana and Santa Clara, experience the hybrid culture of Cuba reflected in its cuisine, music, religious practices, art and architecture.
Timothy Wadkins, PhD, professor of religious studies and theology, invites alumni on an exciting and informative seminar in Limuru, Kenya. Kenya: From Pre-historic Civilization to Post-Colonial Modernization, runs from June 1-10, 2020.
Participants stay at Brackenhurst Eco Conference Center, a gorgeous location nestled at 8,000 feet among historical tea plantations. Visits to such attractions as the Kariandusi prehistoric archaeological site and the Kenyan National Museum are planned. A two-day safari to the Maasai Mara provides the opportunity to meet the local Maasai people.
Opportunities to view the successes of a hospital in Kibera, the world’s largest slum, and engage in conversations with leaders in the health and economics fields of East Africa are planned. Optional recreational activities include birding, golf and a climb of Mount Kenya.
