ArtsCanisius presents the following performances, which are free and open to the public:
- Thursday, February 21 – Kelly Richardson: Exploring Truth, Fiction and the Sublime, an art lecture featuring Holly Hughes- Bohner, curator for the collection at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. The lecture will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Regis Room North.
During the lecture, Hughes-Bohner will discuss the work of Canadian-born video artist Kelly Richardson in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition Kelly Richardson: Legion, a major mid-career survey of the artists’ work. Richardson, who has received numerous accolades for her unique part-real/part-imagined landscapes, explores simultaneity, affect, and the use of cinematic language to create wavering hybrids of fact and fiction which function as visual metaphors for modern “reality” and question our place in the natural world.
- Thursday, February 28 – Music History’s Influence on a NOW Composer, Part 2, a lecture at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center featuring Canisius University Composer-in-Residence Persis Parshall Vehar. Vehar continues her two-part series on the correlation between herself and well-known composers in music history, including Beethoven, Schubert, Stravinsky and Britten.
The ArtsCanisius series at Canisius University presents concerts by professional musicians, including members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Canisius faculty, art shows and lectures by professional artists, as well as student recitals.
