BUFFALO, NY – Eight alumni of the Canisius University Pre-Medical Program took their first, public steps toward becoming physicians, when they participated in the White Coat Ceremony at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences on Friday, August 16.

The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic rite of passage that marks students’ transition from the study of preclinical to clinical health sciences. The ceremony serves as a psychological contract for professionalism and emphasizes the importance of compassionate care for the patient, as well as scientific proficiency.
During the “Calling of the Class,” each new student to UB’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Class of 2017 was called to the stage and presented with a white coat, while his/her undergraduate institution and hometown was identified.
The eight Canisius University alumni who participated in the White Coat Ceremony are: Jacob Castiglia ’12, Jesse Fodero ’13, Beau Froebel ’13, Kevin Hughes ’13, Taylor Klun ’13, Benjamin Martin ’13, Joseph Modica ’13 and Paul Wirth ’13.
