BUFFALO, NY - The Canisius University chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) won two awards at the 2011 CEO Annual National Conference that took place in Fort Worth, TX, from October 27-29. This is the fourth consecutive year that the chapter has been recognized at the national conference.
The chapter received CEO Best Chapter Award in the Teaching Entrepreneurship category. In addition, Ji-Hee Kim, PhD, director and associate professor of entrepreneurship in the Department of Management, won first place in the CEO Best Chapter Advisor category. Nominated by her students for the award, this is the second time Kim was honored with the Best Chapter Award (she was also recognized in 2008).
Students led five panels at the national conference: Jason Frizlen ’13 and Patrick Saladyga ’12 led “E2 Experimental Entrepreneurship: Starting Your Own Chapter Business;” Amy Creathorn ’13 and Lucien Douyon ’13 led “Campus E-Fusion: Idea Pitch Competitions on Your Campus;” Lindsey Rizzo ’12 and Ashley Regan ’13 led “Getting it Off The Ground: Starting a CEO Chapter and Building Membership;” Krista Quackenbush ’13 and Kevin Cheney ’13 led “Bringing Entrepreneurship Across Campus;” and Alexandra Finn ’13 and Justin Zimpfer ’14 led “Getting the Word Out: Successful Entrepreneurial Events.”
A total of 16 Canisius students attended the conference, under the guidance of Kim and Coleman Faculty Fellow Dennis Koch, PhD, associate professor of kinesiology.
The Canisius CEO was created in January 2007 by Kim. CEO informs, supports and inspires Canisius University students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunities through creativity, innovation, entrepreneurial leadership and enterprise creation. Canisius CEO offers student members the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial leadership, professional communication skills, successful team building and team work skills, and knowledge in entrepreneurship by creating, designing, planning, leading, organizing, and implementing educational outreach and experiential entrepreneurship projects.
CEO is a global, non-profit organization, which offers students networking opportunities and serves as an informational resource for prospective entrepreneurs.
