BUFFALO, NY – Canisius presents acclaimed poet Diana Goetsch who will read from her works on Wednesday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge on the second floor of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. The event, which is free and open to the public, will include a book signing, question and answer period, and reception.
Goetsch is the author (as Douglas Goetsch) of Nameless Boy, The Job of Being Everybody and several other volumes of poems. Her work as appeared in the New Yorker, Best American Poetry, and numerous other journals and anthologies. Among Goetsch’s honors are fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts and the Donald Murray Prize. She taught English and creative writing in the New York City public school and to incarcerated teens in the Bronx. Goetsch is the founder of Jane Street Press. She currently writes a column entitled “Life in Transition” for The American Scholar, lives in New York and works as a freelance teacher of writing.
The Contemporary Writers Series was developed by Mick Cochrane, PhD, professor of English. Founded with a grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation and continued through the Peter Canisius Distinguished Teaching Professorship Program, the writers series is generously supported by the William H. Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs and Leadership, the Hassett and Scoma Endowments, and with the cooperation of The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, Just Buffalo Literary Center, Western New York Writing Project and Talking Leaves Books.
