BUFFALO, NY - To culminate the spring 2018 semester, Canisius students showcased the results of their scholarly work, music and art.
More than 130 students participated in the college’s Ignatian Scholarship Day on Thursday, April 22.
This event highlighted the achievements of undergraduate and graduate students in various forms of expression. The day included poster, oral and multi-media presentations in different locations in Science Hall, and performances in Christ the King Chapel. Students also showcased two- and three-dimensional art.
Ignatian Scholarship Day is an opportunity for every student to submit accomplished work from the current or previous semester for exhibit, presentation or performance in a conference environment similar to that of a learned society or organization.

The All-College Honors Program also held its Honors Thesis Defense Week from April 23 through April 27. Some of the thesis topics this semester included an international comparison of zoos; physicians and nonverbal communication; genetically modified foods; the gun control debate, gut microbes; tax fraud; queer ecology; and black womanhood in the popular media
The Honors Thesis is the capstone of the Honors Program, completed in students’ senior years. Students can choose the topic to explore, which usually draws from their past academic experiences. Students must also possess an excellent understanding of the subject area, its theoretical assumptions and its research methodology. Thesis presentations require considerable independent thinking and creativity, self-discipline, and effective time management.
