Will be used to support and further advance the college's Center for Professional Development and Women's Business Center
BUFFALO, NY ― New York State Assemblyman Robin Schimminger secured a $100,000 grant for Canisius University in the 2016-17 final state budget. The grant will be used to support and further advance the college’s Center for Professional Development (CPD) and Women’s Business Center (WBC).
The Center for Professional Development offers educational programs and services directed at workforce development, talent management and business planning. The Women’s Business Center provides women entrepreneurs and small-business owners with the knowledge and skills to succeed through education, connections and community.
“Both the WBC and the CPD are important resources for Western New York residents,” said Assemblyman Schimminger, who is chair of the Committee on Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry. He noted that thousands of participants have benefited from the services provided by the WBC and CPD, which include training and mentoring activities, one-day workshops, one-on-one business counseling, yearlong mentorship programs and numerous networking opportunities.
“As the new Buffalo flourishes, this grant will enable Canisius to continue to leverage its strengths and resources for the benefit of the community’s improving business climate,” added Canisius President John J. Hurley. “What’s good for Canisius is good for the community and vice versa so this grant is a plus all the way around.”
One of 28 Jesuit colleges in the nation, Canisius is the premier private college in Western New York.
