BUFFALO, NY – For the third consecutive year, Canisius University has received a “Military Friendly School” designation from Victory Media Inc., a veteran-owned business and publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine and the Guide to Military Friendly Schools. The 2014 “Military Friendly Schools” list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools, nationwide, that do the most to recruit and retain America’s military service members, veterans and their spouses as students, and ensure their success on campus.
Canisius instituted an Office of Veterans Services in March 2011 to meet the needs of a growing veteran student population, which has seen a 300 percent increase since 2007. The Office of Veterans Services provides academic, disability, career and social support for these non-traditional students. In addition, the office houses a veterans’ lounge, where veteran students can go to study, relax and socialize with other veterans.
Canisius University is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 which makes attendance at Canisius financially tenable to the nation’s veterans. The college similarly participates in a variety of other education benefit programs available to veterans and active duty personnel who qualify.

The 2014 list of “Military Friendly Schools” was compiled through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 10,000 schools approved for VA tuition funding nationwide. The survey results were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media.
