Buffalo, NY - The Canisius University campus transformed into a festive landscape on Friday, Dec. 6 when the the Office of Student Engagement and the Student Programming Board hosted its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
The evening's centerpiece was a new 20-foot tall and 10-foot wide Frasier Fir, which was sourced from Domes Christmas Tree Farm in Bliss, NY and will serve as a permanent fixture in the university's Quad. The tree will be adorned by ornaments decorated by students and features 1,400 twinkling LED energy-efficient lights, which President Stoute turned on with the flip of a switch following an anticipatory countdown.
Students wore their holiday spirit on their sleeves, decked out in the most delightfully ugly Christmas sweaters provided to them by the Office of Student Engagement. Prior to the main event, the student a cappella group the CrescenDON'Ts performed.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony was originally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5 but postponed due to weather.
