Buffalo, NY – For the ninth consecutive year, Canisius University is among the top institutes of higher education designated a 2018 Military Friendly School by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine. First published in 2009, Military Friendly Schools is the most comprehensive resource for veterans today. Each year, the list of Military Friendly Schools is provided to service members and their families to help them select the best college, university or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career.
Institutions earning the Military Friendly School designation are evaluated using public data sources and responses from Victory Media’s proprietary survey. Ratings methodology, criteria and weightings are determined by Victory Media with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings are determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer) and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their successes in the classroom and after graduation.
Canisius instituted an Office of Veterans Services in March 2011 to meet the needs of a growing veteran student population, which has more than doubled since 2007. The Office of Veterans Services provides academic, disability, career and social support for these non-traditional students.
